Underground Baby is considered one of the first major punk bands to come out of the Chinese music scene. Now after a long hiatus, the much waited reformation of the band has finally taken place and S.T.D. are proud to bring these boys to Shanghai.
Now, you see, the new Underground Baby is a little more than just a massive punk band reformed...well, they have what would be the closest thing to as a "Super-Band" in China. The roll call is something like Sulumi - Guitars, Casino Demon Vocalist - Drummer and Hedgehog Bassplayer. That is some serious talent, and wtf Sulumi on guitars! Well you will just have to come witness it yourself.
Supporting Underground Baby will be two local talents. The first of which is also a newly comprised band of an old band. The old band being Top Floor Circus, who have swapped around a few instruments and people and titled the new band King of Retards. Knowing the old antics of TFC, we're sure to be in for a treat.
The second supporting local band are hot shots Crazy Mushroom. The local kids adore these guys with their ummm New-metalish/Chinese anthems. Be sure to come watch every local person singing along to their songs.
To complete the supporting line-up will be Shanghai pop-punk band Little Nature. + STDJs all night and Windows ye ole cheap drinks.

To dispel any myths that sequels are just not as good as the original...we've invited Re-Tros to Part 2 to kick those myths right where it hurts. A little about Re-Tros...
"Born in the shadow of post-Tiananmen nihilism, the collapse of state run industry and a desert that will someday swallow their city whole, Cut Off!, the first E.P. from pioneering Beijing-based post-punks Rebuilding the Rights of Statues delivers explosive, danceable, unsettling energy that leaves you unsure whether you want to take your clothes off and shake the spiders out, or go look for a rope, a closet and a copy of Iggy Pop's The Idiot.
This is visceral music built from the bones up, think ubermench rather than Frankenstein's monster: beautiful, brilliant and brooding.
Drummer Ma Hui's rhythms still hold the echo of the earthquake that wiped his birth city off the map in 1976, while Liu Min's irresistible bass lines and staccato, strangely sensual yelps make you remember why you first fell in love with Blonde Redhead. Standing over it all, Hua Dong's shattering vocals and addictive open-fisted guitar stitch the flesh to the muscle like some demented monkey king. Even legendary composer/producer Brian Eno was so blown away he stood in on guest keyboards (we couldnt even make this stuff up, seriously). "
A Chinese band with an international sound, a #1 favourite amongst the S.T.D. family, we urge you not to miss this sensational band, Re-Tros.
Supporting Re-Tros will be supported by local sensation Banana Monkey. I don't think I need to introduce these boys but just in case...here's a little trivia anyways....they got voted best local band in Shanghai on Cityweekend, and will be hitting Hong Kong for a few shows and a photoshoot with Vogue. Bitchin'.
Whilst the goose bumps are still standing on your skin, R3 will take over the stage and play an original compositions set which he has been meticulously working away at. Somewhere between Trip Hop and Industrial, R3's original compositions will leave you suspended somewhere on the other side.
THEN it's buses to LOgO for an all night after party with Shanghai fave man behind the decks Mr. Tsang for an assault of bootylicious groovin thrust motion music and antics. Joining Mr Tsang will be STDJs alllll nighttttt long.
Of course drinks at Moganshan will be cheap (with prices t.b.a.) and to support the tragedies in China and Burma, all bar sales will be distributed to the children of Sichuan who have lost parents, door profits will be distributed to aid the needy in Burma. Yes, that's from both shows.
More details on the party will be announced in following weeks....keep your ears and eyes spread eagle.

S.T.D. goes all out this weekend beginning with China's biggest band since big bands have been around. With recent tours in Australia (with Regurgitator) and Asia, New Pants are no strangers to both the international and local circuits. There is no festival they haven't headlined and there's not one local rock kid that wouldn't know who these guys are.
New Pants ARE the biggest band in China, and they have come to celebrate good times! We snuck these guys into a suprise S.T.D. party in LOgO for our second show, and some will argue it was one of the best shows last year. Shirts off, crazy table top dancing and people just going completely berserk. Well, we hope to see all this again and alot more.
To set the weekend in motion and opening for New Pants will be the amazingly talented Cold Fairyland. Chilling, atmospheric and other worldly all come to mind when describing this beautiful local band. They will be sure to set the ball rolling in what will be the local live music weekend of the year.
R3 will follow up the bands with his cocktail of electro, punk, disco, rock, grimey, nasty, filthy fucking beats. Check out his latest mix to give yourself an idea.

Profits from bar and door will go to children who have lost their parents in the earthquake and also to aid the needy in Burma.

Happy Birthday to S.T.D.

Believe it or not a
full S.T.D. cycle has almost come full circle. What
was once a little fetus rolling around in amniotic
fluid is now...well...something a bit bigger than
that. From our first party with free condoms, Muscle
Snog and sweaty people until now...we've had the
pleasure to work with some of the most innovative,
eclectic, rockin, high profile, upcoming musicians
and artists in China and around the world.
However, the greatest pleasure since founding S.T.D. is the joy we get in watching people converge during the night to support all styles of music, from the local bands, the touring bands, the DJ's and even cover bands. It's the people that have supported the nights and made it more than just another night in Shanghai and helping us reach our goal of creating an alternative for the alternative.
So in June, S.T.D. have geared up something big to give back to the people of Shanghai, to say...thanks for helping us stick around for a year, paying a cover at LOgO from time to time, putting up with our shit and generally just enjoying yourself at our parties...and also just to throw off a massive fuck off bullshit party...well, cos that's how we roll.
